Argentina's scientific activities in research and development are well established and advanced. Its research and development system is sucessfully embedded in international collaborations.

Brazil produces large quantities of biological raw materials, and uses them to make products such as the biofuel ethanol. It has therefore become a relevant partner of German bioeconomy research. The two countries work together on many scientific topics. Cooperation priorities include environment and sustainability research as well as resources and circular economy. Brazil is Germany’s most important partner in education and research cooperation in Latin America.

Canada

Canada is an important partner for Germany. A science and technology cooperation treaty was agreed as early as 1971. The Canadian government and public pay close attention to German research and innovation policy. Canada’s science funding is currently focused e.g. on supporting Canadian companies in global markets.

Chile

Chile will continue to expand its raw materials sector in the recent years. As a result, Germany and Chile concluded a raw materials partnership. Since 2019, the South American country has been a target country for the funding programme 'CLIENT II - International Partnerships for Sustainable Innovations'. Chile has a great potential of highly qualified scientists and is home to excellent research facilities.

Mexico

Mexico offers enormous potential for cooperation and has a special position among Germany's partners in Latin America. This is due both to Mexico’s regional importance and economic power and to the traditionally close cultural and economic ties between the two countries. Mexico is aiming to be ranked among the top 20 per cent of the world's most competitive countries by 2030.

USA

The USA is Germany’s most important partner for scientific and technological collaboration. A great variety of joint and supportive research projects exist in nearly all areas. The two countries traditionally maintain an intense exchange of information. Several thousand scientific and study trips to the other country are funded each year.
