Country Cooperation

The International Bureau offers a wide range of science and research related services with a focus on selected partner countries. These include:

advice on international cooperation opportunities and conditions,
information on current cooperation topics and funding opportunities,
bespoke matchmaking and brokarage events,
financial support for exploration measures and the preparation of projects – including feasibility studies and pilot investigations.

European Countries

Germany gives high priority to cooperation with other European countries. Most of this cooperation takes place within a multilateral framework and aims to actively shape the European Research Area. Bilateral cooperation fosters the creation and development of partnerships among stakeholders in the research community, facilitates coordination processes and helps strengthen synergies between projects and partners.

(non EU) Eastern Europe, South Caucasus, Central Asia

The countries in these diverse and multifaceted regions play an important and growing role in international cooperation. Some of them have a longlasting and strong science tradition, others demonstrate a particularly dynamic economic growth, both making them interesting cooperation partners for scientists, research institutions and innovative enterprises.

Africa, Middle East, Turkey

Cooperation with countries in North Africa and the Middle East is developing continuously. The most important partner countries in this region are Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, Tunisia and the Palestinian Territories. Sub-Saharan Africa is home to the most populous states on the African continent: states with the world's youngest population, full of motivation, strong potential and high innovative power.

The German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) has commissioned the International Bureau with the scientific and administrative management of its bilateral cooperation with the countries of North, Central- and South America.

Next to North America and Europe, the Asia & Oceania region is the world’s third most important region politically, economically and scientifically. For Germany as a knowledge-based society, it is essential to observe this development of this new globally relevant and extremely dynamic research area and to participate in its evolution with as many contacts as possible.
