GAIIA: Winners of the 3rd German-African Innovation Incentive Award honoured in Berlin

On behalf of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), the winners of the 3rd German-African Innovation Award 'GAIIA' were honoured in Berlin on 12 December 2024. The award ceremony was organised in cooperation with the Sub-Saharan Africa Initiative of German Business (SAFRI). It honoured outstanding project ideas from African-German research collaborations that contribute to sustainable progress on the African continent.

The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) honours outstanding achievements of African scientists with the German-African Innovation Incentive Award (GAIIA). The Award supports the further development of research results into innovative solutions that address the societal and environmental challenges on the African continent and benefit the population. It was first presented in 2018.

Including the 2024 awardees, the number of winners rises to 16 scientists from 10 African countries. They receive funding of up to 150,000 euros for realising a joint research project with high exploitation potential, together with their German partners.
