The general belief of the user that LiBs are more useful for energy dense while SCs are more suited for power dense products need to change. It is now clear that the more-power-dense variations of LiBs surrender a lot of their energy density. On the contrary, the variants of SCs are already competing with energy density values returned by conventional lead acid batteries while retaining high power density. Therefore, the only win-win situation which is becoming plausible is the fabrication of systems using a combination of the two (i.e., LiBs and SCs) in parallel, particularly in power applications. There also exist a group of workers which strongly support the idea of designing a single integrated LiB-SC system rather than combining the two technologies. Although many such ideas have been proposed, no clear strategies have actually been put-forward. The joint workshop aims to bring together the leading groups from the two countries to deliberate and put forward a clear road map for developing the next generation storage technologies.
