This funding measure promotes the development of competence in science management and the sustainable networking between the EU13 states and German non-university research institutions, research funding organisations or universities.

Who is it for?

The target group are medium level science managers from the EU13 countries and Germany working in research or research funding organisations, universities, and comparable institutions that provide research contributions. This will give participants from the EU13 states ('EU13 Fellows') and the German host institutions ('DE Fellows') the opportunity to gain practical experience, build and expand their competence as well as build and deepen their networks.

How does it work? Theory and practice

Work stays

The EU13 fellows will gain practical experience in science management during a stay of 8 to 12 weeks at a German scientific institution or university. They will get insight into different areas and talk to experts about internal organisational processes, the management of EU activities, etc. A reciprocal guest stay of DE fellows at the research institution in the EU13 partner country is possible. As part of the application, the German host institution will submit a structured and coordinated practice concept for the stay in Germany. In addition, a cooperation agreement between the host and the EU13 fellow needs to be concluded.

Campus weeks

In addition to the placement at a German host institution, the programme also includes a theoretical part. An attractive programme of events is offered during two campus weeks in Berlin and Bonn. 'Theme days' on subjects such as knowledge transfer, EU research funding or internationalisation strategies will feature discussions, presentations and excursions led by experts in the German science system. There will be a strong focus on interactive exchange. Campus weeks offer intensive networking opportunities and are an integral part of the programme. Participation is therefore mandatory for the EU13 fellows. Supporting colleagues from the German host institutions are generally welcome to participate in the campus weeks. They will be especially invited to particular days of the programme.

Application

Applications must be submitted via the German host institution. Application deadline: 3 July 2019.
