Pre-proposal procedures at Israeli universities and the Weizmann-Institute

In the DIP programme the six universities and the Weizmann-Institute are only allowed to submit two proposals each. Therefore, an internal pre-selection of proposals which are finally submitted to DIP takes place at each institution. The deadlines for the submission of pre-proposals are in general several months before the deadline for the submission of full proposals. The deadlines for the submission of pre-proposals will be announced in due time In the following you find some information about the pre-proposal procedure at each institution. Ben-Gurion-University
  
Information concerning the DIP call for proposals is transmitted from the DIP administration to the Dept. of Research Contracts at Ben-Gurion University. The Dept. of Research Contracts then disseminates this information to the BGU research community at large. This occurs in September/October and BGU researchers are then eligible to submit pre-proposals to the Dept. of Research Contracts. Interested German applicants are invited to contact their counterparts at BGU in order to submit pre-proposals and be considered in the internal BGU selection process. The DIP program is targeted at SENIOR FACULTY MEMBERS with previous experience in multi-year, multi-partner research projects. On the basis of these pre-proposals an internal committee assisted by external advisors finally decides which applicants are invited to submit a full proposal to the DIP administration. The pre-preposal should be a brief 5-page outline proposal including:

  • Relevant Background Information; Objectives & Significance
  • Research Plan
  • Budget
  • Bibliography (abbreviated)
  • Letter of Collaboration from the German Partner

Haifa-University
  
DIP pre-proposals for the call which will be launched in September 2005 are to be submitted to the Research Authority for internal evaluation until 30 th May 2005, as each year only two proposals per university will be accepted for submission to Germany. Pre-proposals should include:

  • Project description
  • Outline collaboration with the German partners
  • Innovative aspects
  • Estimated budget for a 5 year period: up to Euro 255,000 per annum and a one-time investment of up to Euro 255,000 for equipment.
  • A short CV of the Israeli and German partners.

Hebrew University Jerusalem
  
The information about the DIP call for proposal which is launched every year in September is disseminated at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in English. Interested applicants are invited to submit pre-proposals to the faculty research committees of the HU. Each faculty research committee will choose two pre-proposal and submit them in 8 copies to the Authority for Research and Development at the HU. On the basis of these pre-proposals an internal committee will finally decide which two applicants are invited to submit a full proposal to the DIP administration. Pre-proposals (5 pages) should include:

  • title of the project
  • project description and its scientific background (abstract)
  • aims of the project/expected results
  • outline of cooperation with the German partners and common scientific interest
  • innovative aspects of the project
  • estimation of success

A Call for Pre-proposals for the DIP program is issued by the Weizmann Institute's office of Research Grants and Projects in early November of each year. The submission of pre-proposals must be done in collaboration with and via a Weizmann Institute researcher. The deadline for submission of pre-proposals at the Weizmann Institute will be announced

A decision regarding the pre-proposals is made by the President of the Weizmann Institute, on the recommendation of its Vice President, who determines, further to the DIP guidelines, which two full proposals will be submitted by the Weizmann Institute.

The information about the DIP call for proposal which is launched every year in September is disseminated at Tel Aviv University in Hebrew and English. Interested applicants are invited to submit pre-proposals (2 to 3 pages) to the Research Authority. The pre-preposal should contain an abstract of the proposed project, the German and Israeli partners involved and a budget calculation. Deadline for pre-proposal submission will be announced.
