In the age of globalization, research and education would be unthinkable without international cooperation. Hence, networking in these areas with partners worldwide is of utmost importance to Germany as a key business location. On behalf of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, the International Bureau supports German universities, research institutions and companies in the development of international contacts and networks.
The International Bureau (IB) contributes to the implementation of new government initiatives, such as the High-Tech Strategy, which aims to strengthen Germany’s position as an internationally leading research and innovation country. In cooperation with the BMBF's specialist departments and project management organizations, the IB initiates new collaborations with partner institutions in Europe, the Commonwealth of Independent States, the Middle East, Asia, the Americas and Africa. It offers extensive information and advice on research cooperation with priority countries in these regions. The IB uses most of the financial resources provided by the BMBF to carry out preparatory and fact-finding measures for German universities, non-university institutions and small and medium-sized businesses that would like to get involved in international collaborations. In addition, the IB supports marketing measures under the BMBF’s initiative and carries out further specific funding measures.
