INCO-NETs

In addition to improving cooperation between EU Member States as well as between countries that are associated with the 7th RFP, the 7th RFP also aims to increase cooperation between the EU and third countries. For this reason, targeted calls for proposals are being launched for projects that include international cooperation. These calls are geared towards special target groups (INCO target countries: international cooperation partner countries; ICPC).
Since German researchers play an active role in the EU's programmes, the BMBF and the IB are very interested in participating in EU projects that focus on preparing, analysing and improving scientific cooperation between EU and non-EU countries.

Germany, as one of the most important partners for countries in all regions of the world, must make sure that it is involved in the development of the EU's bi-regional research programmes. Germany cooperates intensively with its partner countries and regions in scientific fields that are priorities of the 7th EU research framework programme and of the German High-Tech Strategy. In order to assert its interests, Germany needs to play an active role in the further development of EU funding mechanisms.

There are INCO-NETS for the following regions:
  • South-East Asia
  • Latin America
  • Eastern Europe / Central Asia
  • Africa
  • The Mediterranean region
  • The Western Balkans

The International Bureau of the BMBF has thematic interests and a wide range of close contacts to government departments in all important EU partner regions and countries. That is why the IB, on behalf of the BMBF, is involved in all important projects as a partner or coordinator.

  • IncoNet EECA

The partnership between the countries of the European Union and Eastern Europe/Central Asia (EECA) is of utmost importance for the political, economic and social development of both regions. Linking the scientific potential and resources has a huge impact on economic growth, social prosperity and welfare as well as public stability. The EU and EECA countries have significant potentials both in terms of the strong academic community and of worldwide leading S&T institutes in a variety of scientific disciplines.
