Promoting innovation in Germany

Germany holds a prominent position in science, research and development, not only in Europe, but across the world. German companies are pioneers in developing innovative products, and "Made in Germany" is recognized as a sign of quality everywhere in the world. In our globalized world, scientific and technological advances are no longer isolated achievements that take place within national borders - they can only be accomplished by cooperating and exchanging ideas with leading experts from across the world.

We want to present the attractiveness of Germany and its research environment to important target countries and raise the profile of German research institutions, competence networks and companies that are active in the field of research by presenting their activities, strengths and potential for cooperation. In order to support this goal, the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) has launched an international marketing initiative for Germany as a key location of innovation. The attractiveness of Germany and its research activities in a number of selected fields of the High-Tech Strategy is being presented to important target countries under the heading "Research in Germany - Land of Ideas". In this initiative, German research institutions, networks, and companies that actively conduct research present their activities, strengths and cooperation potential.

The first measures aimed at raising awareness of Germany as a key location of innovation were carried out in a pilot campaign in South Korea, one of Asia's high technology countries, in 2006 and 2007.

Two key subjects of the High-Tech Strategy are be at the centre of current campaigns: nanotechnologies and environmental technologies. In 2008 and 2009, the achievements and successes of German research in these two fields are to be presented by means of targeted marketing activities in other countries.

A further campaign has startet in India in 2009.

If we want competitive research and innovation in Germany, we need to work together with countries that have significant scientific and technological resources and in which important future markets are emerging. That is why we carry out targeted subject- and country-specific priority campaigns as part of our efforts to present Germany to other countries.
