DIP - Deutsch-Israelische Projektkooperation

11th Call for Project Proposals / 11. Aufruf zur Einreichung von Projektanträgen

On the basis of an agreement about scientific cooperation, the Weizmann Institute and the universities of the State of Israel and the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) support joint scientific research projects.

1. Project funding
Research institutions are invited to submit proposals in all scientific fields. Priority will be given to innovative and highly competitive research of larger scale. The suggested project must be carried out in close cooperation of Israeli and German project partner(s). The submitted project proposal must contain a description of the joint work plan for both, the Israeli and the German side. The excellence of the proposed scientific cooperation including the exchange of scientists, in particular young researchers (PhDs/Post docs) is a major evaluation criterion besides the scientific excellence of the proposal. Involved scientists, especially the Principal Investigators, must have a full working opportunity over the projects period.

2. Eligibility and deadline
Eligible for the submission of proposals are the six Israeli universities and the Weizmann Institute. Responsible for submission are the “Research Authorities” of the institutions. They will invite interested scientists to submit pre-proposals for projects involving cooperation with German partners and decide on those proposals to be finally submitted to the DIP administration. Each of the seven institutions can submit up to two proposals every year; the deadline of applications for the 11th call is the March 31st 2007.

3. Duration of Project
The research should be planned for a period of five years.

4. Budget
Funding is complementary, the contribution by the Israeli institution (“Matching”) and the BMBF grant for the Israeli institution should strictly match. That is not required for the BMBF grant dedicated to the German partners. The financial plan must state the institutional resources available to the project (“Matching”) and identify the additional financial needs. The total budget requested for the Israeli and German partners should not exceed 255.000 EUR per year. Funding may include running cost (staff, travel and material cost). If a project comprises several Israeli research groups a financial plan for each group has to be prepared, as well as a financial plan for each German partner involved. Industrial partners participate at their own expenses. The Israeli side and German side may apply for major research investments only for the first year of the project. Investment funding will not exceed a maximum of 255 000 EUR.

5. Key Dates
Final Date for Submission – March 31st, 2007; Evaluation until September 2007; Planned Date of Initiation – January 1st, 2008
