German-Turkish Science, Technology and Research Cooperation Workshop, 13 - 15 December 2006, Gebze, Turkey

During the 12th session of the Turkish German Cooperation Council in April 2006 in Ankara, the "Science, Research and Technology" Working Group has decided to organize a Strategic Workshop to enhance the cooperation between the two countries.

The workshop will be held in Gebze near Istanbul, Turkey from 13 to 15 December 2006. The aim of the workshop is to bring together interested scientists to exchange ideas to strengthen the cooperation further between Germany and Turkey in the fields of science, technology and research. The workshop's target group comprises project leaders and middle management at university institutes, research establishments and company research departments.

Attention will be focused on establishing permanent contacts and defining promising project approaches that can be applied, for example, in creating consortia for the EU's coming 7th RTD Framework Programme and also for national funding on the basis of bilateral cooperations.

There will be five parallel working groups with the thematic areas:

• Biotechnology, Genomics and Food ´further details`

• Information and Communication Technologies ´further details`
• Environmental Protection, Climate Change and Sustainable Development ´further details`
  

The representatives of leading universities, research institutions and company research departments from both countries will present their respective establishments, research activities and interests and will discuss on possible future cooperation of mutual interest. In group sessions they will try to prepare joint project titles, work packages and define the means of support which they would like to make use of. Every working group will consist of about 10 representatives from each country.
